The RBH Department of Gastro-Sciences is a state-of-the art facility providing comprehensive care, and is equipped to handle life-threatening and complex cases. Our team of highly qualified and experienced specialists are supported by a brilliant team of dedicated nursing staff, endoscopic assistants, dietitian, physiotherapist and occupational therapist. Our facility includes a modular endoscopic unit and laparoscopic theatre, along with latest equipment for radiological investigations.
Our modern endoscopic unit provides all forms of diagnostic, therapeutic and 24×7 emergency endoscopic procedures and is supported by attached pre-and post-procedure observation ward. The unit is also equipped to perform endoscopic procedures under general anaesthesia.

Hepatology & Biliopancreatic Sciences
The Department provides both emergency and elective procedures including treatment to patients for liver, biliary and pancreatic diseases by experienced specialists and support teams. The Department provides protocol and evidence based care to an increasing number of patients who suffer from difficult to treat hepatology and biliopancreatic ailments. Hepatology services include diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis (hepatitis B, C, E, A & D), alcoholic liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, drug induced hepatitis and all causes of jaundice. Special services include:
- Management of variceal bleed, liver coma, hepatocellular carcinoma
- Liver biopsy
- Nutritional services
The Department also provides emergency and elective procedures including treatment to patients with bilio-pancreatic diseases including gallstones, bile duct stones, strictures, pancreatitis and cancer of bilio-pancreatic tree.
Lower Gastro-Intestinal Surgery
Our Department of Gastro-Intestinal Surgery at RBH has state-of-the-art advanced modular laparoscopic theatre equipped with facilities to carry out all emergency and elective Gastro-Intestinal surgeries. The Department of Gastro-Sciences provides facilities to carry out all the colorectal and pelvic floor surgeries. The Department has a strong and dedicated support team.
We perform various basic and complex surgeries including-
- Laparoscopic colectomy, APR, ELAPE procedure for rectal cancer
- Transanal endoscopic operations (TEO)
- STARR and THO procedures
- Surgical procedure for obstructive defecation syndrome
- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, spleenectomy, partial gastrectomy and CBD exploration
The preliminary care in any Gastro-Intestinal emergencies, including Gl bleeding & acute abdominal pain, is offered by a well equipped paramedic ambulance team. The RBH emergency department is supported by a highly experienced emergency team well trained for the initial resuscitation of the patient.
