Launch of Epilepsy and Headache Clinic.
On 21st February 2020, an Epilepsy and Headache Clinic was started at CK Birla Hospitals, RBH, Jaipur. Speaking at the launch program of the clinic, Dr. Anjani Kumar Sharma, Director, Neuroscience, said that more than 50 million people are affected by epilepsy all over the world, in India about 6-10 people per thousand populations are likely to suffer from epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder. In this, the patient has frequent seizures. In epilepsy, the patient has symptoms such as fainting, mouth froth, lips and face becoming blue. Dr. Anjani said that epilepsy is not incurable, the patient can lead a fairly normal life with some precautions and proper treatment. Dr. Kapil Khandelwal, a Neurologist, said that in 5% – 10% cases, epilepsy can be caused by genetic predisposition. More than 90% of the causes of epilepsy are not genetic and arise from the head injury, stroke, and many other patients such as tuberculosis, infection, and stroke.
Addressing the program, Dr. Pushkar Gupta, Director, Neurology stated that headache is the highest disease related to neurological disease. Headache can occur at any time to 50% of the general population, while 3% of the general population suffers from severe headaches. Migraine and tension are the major causes of cluster headache. Dr. Dilip Nagarwal Neurologist said that sometimes the headache for a long time can also have an adverse effect on the proper functioning of several organs. It can also be a migraine, tumor or other disease associated with the nervous system. Therefore, there is a need for awareness, to avoid simple headache to turn into a serious disease.
In view of the growing problem of epilepsy and headache, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Unit Head of CK Birla Hospitals, RBH, Jaipur, told that people suffering from these disorders should get the facility of timely expert consultation at an affordable package. Talking about the clinic, he said that the patients with epilepsy and headache can now avail the services of epilepsy and headache clinics and special convenience counseling. There will be a facility of epilepsy every Tuesday and headache clinic every Friday.
