Inspired by the World Health Organization’s global call to reinforce hand hygiene among health care workers, the Infection Control Department at CK Birla Hospitals RBH, Jaipur organized a daylong celebration on Saturday, 4th May, 2019 to showcase the organization’s commitment to clean care and remind everybody involved in patient care just how important it still is to work towards clean hands at the point of patient care every day.
The day began with the fun rally with one of the IC team members dressed as a “Handyman” reaching out to the Healthcare workers on floors/wards and ICUs and asking the staff to demonstrate the steps of hand washing, the 5 moments of hand hygiene and indications of hand rub and hand wash. The staff who reverted with correct answers were rewarded with hand hygiene badges, certificates and pocket hand rub bottles.
A Glo Germ Detection Campaign was simultaneously conducted to check the efficacy of hand washing in healthcare workers. The staff was explained using a UV light the areas likely to be missed if not taken care of during the act of hand washing.
A Hand Hygiene Quiz was conducted in the afternoon for the Nursing staff where there were 4 teams of 3 Nursing staff from various hospital areas. The Emergency-OPD nursing team was declared the winner. The audience were also distributed chocolates for the right answers for the audience questions. The Nursing staff gathered in large numbers to witness the quiz competition and cheer for their peers. There was a simultaneous fun learning aspect.
There was a Hand Hygiene themed board decoration competition for the Nursing staff of various units across the hospital. The staff came up with educative, creative and informative concepts on hand hygiene. The team Labour room-IIIrd floor was declared the winner.
The winners of the hand hygiene day competitions were awarded trophies by the Group COO on 7th May, 2019.
