Patients with serious multiple injuries, often a result of a road accident or a fall or some natural disaster are initially handled in the Emergency Department. The services range from x-rays and setting of broken bones to a full-scale trauma treatment. It is established that a patient’s chance of survival is greatly improved if definitive treatment (i.e. surgery or re-perfusion) is provided within one hour (called the Golden Hour) of the incident.
This is possible at RBH because of well laid protocols and the close working relationship and coordination between the Department of Emergency Medicine and the other Departments at RBH. In appreciation of its excellent service in treating minor lacerations and sprains to major multi-system trauma including shock and massive bleed, RBH Department of Emergency has won several recognitions.

When required immediate round the clock access is available to interventional cardiologists and the cardiac cath lab.
In fact, acute neurological illness is one of the most common causes for admission in emergency. We are a recognized primary stroke centre in the city and are known for not just emergency care but also for our focus on treating for long term positive outcomes in stroke patients.
The concept of “Golden hour” also applies in neurological emergencies (time is brain). For example, a stroke caused by a blood clot in the artery of brain can only be opened if the patient presents within 4.5 hours of the event. We, at RBH have an advanced neurology and neurosurgery department equipped with all life-saving technologies and facilities under one roof. The Center treats simple and complex vascular disorders by incorporating recent developments in emergency medicine and neurosciences. The Emergency team works in co-ordination with the radiology and neurology departments for quick imaging (24 hr access to CT, MRI and other imaging) and early intervention with relevant neurology consultations, since time is of the essence. In addition to strokes, the center also handles severe headache, seizures (fits), loss of consciousness, etc.
Poisoning is one of the most common medical presentations to hospital. Immediate first aid is very important in a poisoning emergency. The mission is to support and manage the patients, save lives, and limit permanent injury from poisoning.
